CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES:
Operations & Event Manager Overview
The Operations & Event Manager (O&EM) oversees day-to-day operations at the Catamount Outdoor Family Center (COFC), including guest services and rental hub supervision; program and event coordination; customer relationship management; and administrative, human resources, and financial tasks that ensure the smooth, effective delivery of COFC’s mission. This role blends operational leadership with hands-on coordination, staff management, and community engagement.
This position suits a motivated, organized, community-minded professional who thrives in an outdoor recreation environment and enjoys a balance of administrative and program work. This is a robust role and we are willing to train the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Administration
- Oversee daily operations to ensure consistent policies and procedures, while upholding the Catamount Culture of inclusiveness, respect for each other and nature, outdoor education and healthy recreation.
- Recruit, onboard, train, and supervise full-time and seasonal staff and volunteers, with support from the Executive Director (ED).
- Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all areas of operation.
- Ensure compliance with state policies, town ordinances, and foundational documents (including conservation easement, management plans, and lease agreements), in partnership with the ED.
- Manage administrative systems, including POS, marketing, fundraising, and website platforms (Square, QuickBooks, Mailchimp, social media platforms, Google Workspace, WordPress, Little Green Light, Ultracamp are used).
- Monitor operational inventory and reorder as needed.
- Handle day-to-day banking, invoicing, and deposit runs.
Event & Program Management
- Plan and coordinate new and existing year-round programs and events, including community programs, weekly outings and races, lessons, clinics, tours, SnowSchool, and summer camps.
- Provide on-site leadership and coordinate with event hosts, town, vendors and volunteers.
- Support the Race Director in running the weekly race series.
- Lead on event and group visit logistics.
- Oversee all program and event registration, marketing, general communications, and feedback assessments.
- Lead programs and host events as needed.
Summer Camp Management
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and train all camp staff (CITs through Leads) with support from the ED.
- Serve as Summer Camp Co-Director and manage Ultracamp registration and accounts during the camp season.
- Conduct mid- and end-of-season evaluations for all camp staff.
- Lead all communication with camper families.
- Step in to lead camps as needed.
- Support ACA accreditation and compliance with the ED and Guest Experience Coordinator (GEC).
Marketing & Community Outreach
- Maintain an annual event calendar across platforms (website, Facebook, Instagram, Front Porch Forum).
- Develop marketing materials, newsletters, and social media content with the ED.
- Promote COFC’s brand, mission, and programs across online and community channels.
- Build and maintain relationships with the Board of Directors (BOD), town committees, community partners and sponsors, businesses, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
- Represent COFC at community events and public meetings as needed.
Bonus Skills: Financial & Strategic Support
- Support budgeting, reporting, and strategic planning for the ED and BOD by pulling reports and keeping detailed records to inform long-term decision-making.
- Assist with fundraising, sponsorships, and grant opportunities.
- Secure race sponsorships and develop community partnerships with the ED and GEC.
Minimum Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in an outdoor leadership or recreation manager role.
- Experience with summer camp programming and/or event management
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, staff, and volunteers simultaneously.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.
- Nonprofit or administration experience
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- General naturalist or outdoor skills.
- Familiarity with the local outdoor recreation community.
- Experience with some of the following platforms: Google Workspace, WordPress, Square, Mailchimp, QuickBooks, Canva, Little Green Light, Ultracamp, and social media platforms,
- Fundraising and sponsorship development experience.
- Knowledge of recreational management for summer and winter use.

- Compensation is DOE with an hourly range of $25-$28

Summer Camp 2026 – Lead Coaches / Counselors
We’re seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated leaders with mountain biking and outdoor skills to join our team for the 2026 Summer Camp season! Lead Coaches will support approximately 7–9 weeks of Mountain Biking and Explorers Day Camps between June 15 and August 14, 2026.
Ideal candidates have strong communication skills and prior experience in coaching, instruction, or camp counseling. However, we’re happy to train the right individuals who demonstrate initiative, reliability, and a passion for working with youth in the outdoors.
Responsibilities include:
- Planning daily and weekly activities based on group and weather dynamics
- Leading and supervising groups of campers in daily activities
- Teaching and demonstrating mountain biking and outdoor skills
- Managing group safety and skill sets
- Mentoring assistant coaches and CITs
- Communicating effectively with campers, parents, and staff
- Lead on risk meditation and medical response/reporting
Requirements:
- Must be 17 years of age or older by the start of camp
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Experience with youth programs, recreation, or outdoor education preferred
- Mountain biking and/or naturalist skills
- WFA/CPR and SafesSort Certified
- Background checked
Summer Camp 2026 – Assistant Coaches / Counselors
We’re looking for motivated, energetic individuals with a love for mountain biking and the outdoors to join our Assistant Coach team for the 2026 Summer Camp season! Assistant Coaches will support approximately 5–9 weeks of Mountain Biking and Explorers Day Camps between June 15 and August 14, 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for those who have aged out of our youth programs or are looking to build their leadership, group management, and public speaking skills. Assistant Coaches act as the bridge between CITs (Coaches in Training) and Lead Coaches, helping facilitate camp activities while developing their own leadership potential.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting Lead Coaches in daily camp operations
- Mentoring CITs and assisting with skill sessions and activities
- Helping manage group safety, gear, and logistics
- Building confidence and leadership toward future Lead Coach roles
As Assistant Coaches grow more comfortable in their role, Lead Coaches will delegate additional responsibilities to help them gain experience and confidence on the path to becoming a Lead Coach.
Requirements:
- Must be 16 years of age or older by the start of camp
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Interest in youth development, coaching, or outdoor education
Summer Camp 2026 – Coach in Training (CIT)
Are you a former camper or young outdoor enthusiast eager to build your leadership and communication skills? The Coach in Training (CIT) program is the perfect way to take the next step in your camp journey.
CITs serve as the bridge between campers and coaches, helping create a fun, safe, and engaging environment for all participants. This hands-on role provides valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, and outdoor education—an ideal foundation for future Assistant or Lead Coach roles.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting coaches during skills sessions and activities
- Helping set up, organize, and maintain camp gear
- Supporting group management and ensuring camper safety by reminder campers of rules.
