SUMMARY:Dual Slalom Series
DESCRIPTION:Catamount Outdoor Family Center and UVM Cycling are joining forces for an extra night of the summer dual slalom series on September 8th!\n\nAll experience levels are welcome and encouraged! Multiple brackets will be run based on individual qualification times.\nYou can expect a classic head-to-head race in a laid-back environment. This summer series is the perfect opportunity to schralp some corners\, get some (optional) air\, and hang out with a fun community of bikers. Quali runs will begin at 5pm and brackets will follow.\n\nRegistration is $5 per entry and will be collected by UVM Cycling as the Hub is closed on this date.

SUMMARY:Managing Forests for Carbon and Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Tony D’Amato\, of the University of Vermont\, and Ethan Tapper\, the Chittenden County\nForester\, for a free\, public walk focusing on how to take care of our forests in a changing climate! \nThe walk will take place at the Catamount Community Forest (CCF) in Williston\, on the site of a\nforest management project scheduled to begin in August\, 2023. The forest management project at\nthe CCF will be part of a nation-wide collaborative effort called “Adaptive Silviculture for Climate\nChange (ASCC)” — a network of research and demonstration sites designed to learn more about\nhow to manage forests in a changing climate. Learn more about ASCC here: \n\nHome \n\nAt the same time\, the project at the CCF will showcase responsible forest management for climate\nresilience and adaptability\, renewable resources\, wildlife habitat\, biodiversity and more.\nInterpretive educational signage has been installed throughout the project area\, and there will be\nnumerous walks\, talks\, events and opportunities for the public to learn more about the project in\nthe coming year. \nDr. D’Amato has been the chair of the University of Vermont’s Forestry program since 2016. He has\ncoauthored well over 100 peer-reviewed articles and is co-author of Ecological Silviculture:\nFoundations and Applications. Among other objectives\, his research focuses on understanding both\nnatural and managed forest systems\, and how to manage forests in a responsible way in light of\nchanging global conditions and societal objectives. \nEthan Tapper is the Chittenden County Forester for the Vermont Department of Forests\, Parks and\nRecreation. DESCRIPTION:Join Kristin Sundquist\, a high level cyclist of many disciplines\, Pride Rider\, and rider for Green Mountain CX for a LGBTQIA+ Cyclocross skills clinic on Friday\, September 16th at 5:30pm!\n\nKristin will take participants through the foundational skills and guidelines of cyclocross racing\, giving pointers and feedback throughout the clinic. Riders can participate with any bike of their choosing though some suggestions for bikes best fit for this clinic would be a cyclocross specific bike\, a gravel bike\, a fat bike\, or a mountain bike. This clinic is open to LGBTQIA+ riders.\nNo previous cyclocross experience necessary!\n\nBring a water bottle for hydration and wear clothes you typically bike in.\nNo fee to register\, come out and learn cyclocross with us!\n\nThank you to the clinic’s cohosts: Green Mountain CX and Pride Rides!
